Lavina (Wooten) Leight was born in Middletown, Ohio, December 16, 1926. She attended Monroe High School, Monroe, Ohio, and Bible Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. She married Robert D. Leight on March 15, 1944. They were approved as Baptist Bible Fellowship missionaries to Alaska in May 1958. Their sending church was Grace Baptist Church, Middletown, Ohio, Howard Sears, pastor.

Lavina was always extremely active with the children and in the music ministry of their churches. They served in Alaska faithfully until Lavina's failing health made it necessary for them to change fields. They changed to the Seminole Indians in 1981. In 1985, both Bob and Lavina's health necessitated their going on medical disability status. They made their home in Largo, Florida and attended the New Testament Baptist Church, Harold Ramsey, pastor.

Even after having open heart surgery, Lavina was very active in the AWANA program. She was leader in the Sparks and saw many children saved. Just a week or two before her last hospitalization she was in her place at AWANAS and there were four saved that Wednesday night. Lavina was called Home by her Lord on August 14, 1999. She was survived by her husband, Bob; two sons: Nelson Douglas, and William Webster; and daughter, Diana Marie.
